Ottawa Moving Company

Happy's Moving & Storage is a family-run Ottawa moving company. We move houses, condos, apartments and offices right across the city — Kanata, Barrhaven, Orléans, Nepean, the Glebe and downtown — and because we're based up the highway in the Ottawa Valley rather than paying city-centre overhead, our quotes land lower than the national franchises without cutting a single corner on care.

Movers who know Ottawa street by street

Ottawa is really a dozen moving jobs wearing one name. A Centretown high-rise needs an elevator booked and a loading dock reserved before we ever turn a key. A Glebe semi means a narrow staircase, a tight landing and a permit-parking street where the truck can't just sit wherever it likes. Kanata and Barrhaven are wide driveways and long carries from garage to front door. Orléans adds the Queensway at rush hour to every calculation.

We plan for the version of Ottawa you actually live in. When you call, we ask about stairs, elevators, parking and access before quoting — which is why our quotes hold up on the day instead of growing once the crew arrives and discovers the reality.

Condo and apartment moves, done by the building’s rules

Most Ottawa condo boards require a booked elevator window, a certificate of insurance on file, and protective padding in the lift and hallways. Miss one and the concierge can turn a crew away at the door — an expensive morning for everyone.

Tell us the building and we handle that paperwork side with you: we'll get the insurance certificate to management, work inside the elevator window you're given, and pad the common areas so you get your deposit back. We're equipped for moves of any size, from a one-bedroom on Laurier to a full family home in Riverside South.

Offices, shops and government-adjacent relocations

Ottawa runs on offices, and office moves live or die on downtime. We schedule commercial relocations for evenings and weekends so your team logs off Friday in one place and logs on Monday in another. Desks, files, IT gear and meeting rooms get labelled by destination room so nothing has to be hunted for on day one.

We also do the unglamorous half nobody quotes for: clearing the old space out, hauling away what isn't coming with you, and leaving it broom-clean for the landlord walkthrough.

Why an out-of-city mover often costs less in Ottawa

The instinct is that a local company must be cheaper. In practice, downtown Ottawa operators carry city overhead and, if they're a franchise, a royalty on top of every invoice — and it shows up in your hourly rate. We drive in from the Valley, quote the job flat, and skip both of those.

We'll also beat any reputable written quote you've been given. Send it over with your details and we'll come back under it — no haggling, no theatre.

Moving to Ottawa: A Practical Guide

Ottawa is one of Canada's easiest big cities to move to — housing costs less than Toronto or Vancouver, the commute is short by big-city standards, and the city is genuinely bilingual and family-oriented. The two things that catch newcomers out are how different the suburbs feel from the core, and how much winter should shape your moving date.

Ottawa moving FAQs

Do you serve all of Ottawa, including Kanata, Barrhaven and Orléans?

Yes — the entire city and the surrounding townships. Kanata, Stittsville, Barrhaven, Nepean, Orléans, Manotick, Riverside South, and everything through the core. There is no "outside our zone" surcharge for one end of the city over another.

Can you move me from Ottawa to the Ottawa Valley (or the other way)?

That's one of the most common moves we run. Families heading out of the city for more house and a real yard, and seniors coming into Ottawa to be closer to family — both directions, quoted flat, usually loaded in the morning and delivered the same afternoon.

How far ahead should I book an Ottawa move?

Two to four weeks is comfortable. The end of the month, the last weekend of June and the first of July book out first because leases turn over then — if your date falls in one of those windows, call earlier. Short-notice moves are still worth asking about; we can often fit them in.

Do you offer storage in between Ottawa closing dates?

Yes, and it's one of the most useful things we do. When your sale closes before your purchase, we load once, hold everything securely for as long as the gap runs, and deliver on the day you get keys — so you're not paying for a double move or living out of boxes in a hotel.
